Famous Quote : re kids going to school without lunch/breakfast 2 pieces of Bread , a slice of cheese . When you get to the stage when those working & not in trouble get govt handouts, its going to be a impossible battle to solve any of this Family with 1 parent working +3 kids. They save Working For Family $$ to go towards overseas holidays every other year . The whole system will fall over in 10-20 years. NZ will run out of money to fund all these handouts (incl pensions) |

They take on a lot of additional work, for example my friend got flown to Christchurch, pulled long hours and helped out way above the call of duty down there during the major earthquakes. No bonuses, no pay increase, no nothing. Just doing it because he's a nice guy. Their pay isn't affected at all by if they pay out money or not. |

| 1278018 | 2012-05-29 05:41:00 | You prove it . You have never had to go there and apply, you just come up with this fantasy . Plasma TVs . They'd immediately be investigating their accounts to see how they could afford relatives to stay, checking the relatives aren't also listed as beneficiaries, asking how much living costs these relatives would be contributing to the weeks costs, deducting all that off the benefit . They do not pay car registrations, they do not pay rates . They do not even pay power bills unless it's the final notice, they sure don't pay for TVs . They don't even pay for much - they might - note, might, loan you money for something, certainly not a TV . Why the hell should I prove anything, you prove your crazy wild claims before plastering them all over forums . All this friend of a friend **** . And yes Chill, they DO get bonuses . No they don't get bonuses and yes they do assist with TV's - get your facts right dude . Ring 0800 559 009 to confirm this . KTHX BI! |

| 1278019 | 2012-05-29 08:24:00 | No, they do NOT get bonuses . A niece of mine went to Chch after the Feb quakes and pulled 11 out of 12 hours helping people into accommodation, benefits, etc . Crying so much and wishing that she could help people more . Was paid no overtime and this crappy Govt couldn't care less! LL |

NZ will run out of money to fund all these handouts (incl pensions) Since when is the pension a handout? It is called a pension because those who have been working for 40 years odd have paid their tax and can then claim it! When you are 65, or whatever age future govts may decide, please get back on here and tell us if it is a handout, or whether you think that you have paid enough tax to deserve a pension. LL |

| 1278021 | 2012-05-29 12:42:00 | If you are having trouble with rates you should be talking to your council not Winz . Councils can do hardship grants also Which councils? Our local council gives a rebate on rates and thats laughable how much you get compared to how low the cap is for income to get any rebate . Then again our Council is take take take and when it comes to giving something back . . . . erm no . I have a bit of a peeve with my own local council . For the last 5 years I have been on call for Rural Fire, Rural Fire is council run and compared to NZ Fire Service in some areas a shambles with the councils that run it . Couple of months ago we got paraded in the council chambers with the Mayor and given a Medal for service . A medal that was given as part of the International Year of Volunteers! I felt uncomfortable taking that medal from the council because despite us volunteering we were paid for callouts by a sub contractor to the council . Given that time could be several hours or days it made up fro lost earnings from employers . In April they contracted out the rural fire to the Regional Council who now are no longer giving a cent to us to compensate lost income and for many of us the cost of responding from what can be quite a distance costing us fuel . Of course they told us this after we spent a night and a day dampening down a forest fire . So councils giving something back is a joke given the commitment that some of us give and the amount of extra money we pay out doing so! Not just call out time but the training is far more than it was years ago with NZQA minimum standards before you even get to an incident . Who should get a rates rebate? Just to clear it up a bit better some councils pay the Rural Fire Force others just expect you to give . Then they wonder why they struggle to find volunteers . NZFS is a differant matter as most volunteers are living within 5km of the station and respond differantly, they also get perks to the brigades that honour the work they do . Whats the biggest kicker is despite that volunteer work and Training, WINZ do not recognise it either . Of course when the **** hits the fan unless your in a big city you will expect a big red truck to turn up and help you . |

How often they had it should be tallied up, if they been off the dole for say 5yrs they might get the counter resetteed .... I read that the pension, NZ may be the only country in the OECD that doesn't have some forms of means testing. Like in Canada while you may get $40 or 80 per fortnight, unless you qualify you don't get up to $300 per week. IMO why hand out the pension. Surely people should be responsible for themselves. It should be means tested so only those that need it gets it. If a person has assets, can manage themselves, if anywhere gets it .... surely will be expensive to manage. People should be trusted into saving their own money than paying more tax and let the govt share/finance it around .... At the end of the day pension has to come from somewhere ... |
