Both devices are trying to QoS provide NAT and Firewall capabilities as well as route traffic, this causes all sorts of slowdowns and problems. The correct way would be to put the router into "AP mode" which means the wireless router transparently passes on the the data from the modem. This fixes a lot of issues (esp with open ports/skype/gaming etc) | The Error Guy (14052) | ||
| 1302388 | 2012-09-23 04:29:00 | Pretty sure that it is a modem problem for me - using a new Dell laptop also crashes the connection...the major annoyance for me is Google Drive, which crashes the connection on boot-up (then a reset of modem sees it work fine). Thanks for all your help anyway. | Filthygamer (16897) | ||
| 1302389 | 2012-09-23 22:39:00 | ...Wireless can be really fickle... Yes, welcome to the wacky world of wifi. Wifi can be very fickle on some sites. Things to try Try turning of Power management on the laptops wifi device, via ctrl panel, system, device manager, right click the wifi device Try turning off ALL power saving/hyberanation/sleep on the laptop & see if that helps (temporarily) Move the modem(even to somewhere else in the room) , move laptop somewhere else TURN OFF any cordless phones, video senders, garage door openers etc Modems wifi can go bad, causing some devices to not connect (or drop off) while other devices work 100% with the same modem (as in our office) Is the wifi dropping off (*needs a reconnect on the laptop), or wifi stays connected & internet drops off ?? |

| 1302390 | 2012-09-24 00:38:00 | Hey 1101 basically tried turning off wireless (Power Mangement) and also turning off power saving modes and also doing alot of restarts . I acutually can't move the modem because it is connected to the home pc which that supplies me a wireless from there . Though i have turned off cordless phones which i now that this might be whats causing the problem , i will call telecom and see what they say , And yes youre absolutely right , modems can go funny and cause problems on some devices specially laptops but my mobile does not have that problem ,only sometimes connction drops ,which i dont reallly mind but otherwise mobile works fine but not laptops. Well at the moment , the problem im having is improved , i havent noticed much dropouts , maybe just one time . It is because i had early unplugged all wires and basically resetted everything but im still having thoughts that this could happen again and how can i stop it happening again . My best guess is phone line . Thanks for help and yeah wifi stays connected and internet drops . |
