1278365 2012-05-30 02:18:00 if she wants to learn to drive, give her a hand I say. I've been meaning to get my license for about 5 years now, but just haven't had the resources or the bother to do so. At times it's proved to be a total hinderance. Thankfully those times are few and far in between. It'd still be handy though.

And she's gonna have sex with whoever she wants regardless. They'll do what they want to do regardless of what you say or do. Knowing teenagers today you'll teach her to drive and then she'll be driving off and shortly after will start testing the suspension. Unless you plan to permanently be teaching her to drive.
Just make sure you get her (or she gets) a stationwagon/family car. none of this 2 door skyline bullshit. Because it'll happen. I have absolutely no faith in people my age and younger to do any better.

And if necessary walk her in to family planning or whatever and get her a bucket of condoms, if she won't go herself.

1278366 2012-05-30 02:20:00 Well it's creative bargaining you have to admit.
I thought so too! :D

I was allowed to get mine when I was 15, but had to pay my own way. Seemed a fair bargain I thought.

I can see it going down this way:
You can drive, but no sex / boyfriend until you're 25, final offer!

:D :D

1278367 2012-05-30 02:21:00 Eldest daughter approaching her 16th birthday. For some time she's been harping on about learning to drive as soon as she's 16, guess who is expected to pay for lessons. Of course Mum and I consider she's too young which has upset her.

Latest conversation went something like this:
"Dad, you know that when I'm 16 it's legal for me to have s*x with almost anyone"
"Yes dear"
"Well, with my schoolwork and netball and my job and driving lessons I simply wouldn't have time for boys but without the driving lessons I'd have time to spare"
"In that case you could take up knitting or sewing or get a second job"
"Humph!!! I'm gonna talk to Mum"

I have the sneaky feeling that she will eventually win.

How the heck is a MM supposed to handle this without imploding?

Tough eh?..... That is why my daughter is named SWMBO Jnr. Still the same even though she is 36yrs of age.

Give in mate. It is the easiest way.

Ken ;)

1278368 2012-05-30 03:01:00 Interesting argument. Knowing from experience, she won't actually have sex, she's just looking for a way to get you to pay for her driving lessons. Nick G (16709)

Guess it begs the question: How good is the OPs relationship with said daughter, that he knows she isn't going to go find herself some Hugh Hefner loving ;)

1278370 2012-05-30 03:36:00 Are you just trying to avoid her driving because of perceived cost, or do you genuinely think she is not yet mentally ready for it?

Well now, the cost of lessons can be managed. Mentally ready? Most of the time I think she's mentally ready for just about everything including s*x, perhaps it's me who's not mentally ready..

1278371 2012-05-30 03:39:00 By the time she gets her restricted and can drive on her own she will just about be another year older and a bit more mature gary67 (56)

I guess I'd classify our relationship as excellent, she really is an obedient and charming young lady with a great sense of humour. But then all Dads will say that about their daughters. Maybe I should encourage her to find a Hugh Hefner then perhaps I could inherit a centre-fold girl or two.

1278373 2012-05-30 03:56:00 Sounds like you've done a good job of raising her and should be proud. Nothing wrong with not wanting your little girl to grow old, I'm sure it won't be long before you're walking her down the isle.

Man I'm dreading having kids, I reckon I could survive having a boy, but I'm going to be a bloody territorial father if my wife and I have a baby girl.... Thankfully we're not gonna be trying for another 18 months, just getting lots of practice in the mean time ;-)
