1302053 2012-09-19 02:58:00 Hi all,
I am getting a message from Avast which says,

"Avast! has detected a secure comnnection from your mail program (process OUTLOOK.EXE) to the POP server **.***.**.***.

This type of connection cannot be checked for viruses. Please disable SSL/TLS in your mail client so the Mail Scanner can scan your mail."

OK so who know what that means and how do I fix it?
Cheers
:)

1302054 2012-09-19 03:09:00 It means what it says - your outlook mail account is using a secure connection when it accesses the pop server, which it does to bring in mail etc, so Avast cannot scan it. No need to fix it, its fine as is. Nick G (16709)
1302055 2012-09-19 03:22:00 Thanks Nick,
But if it's ok why is avast telling me to fix it?

1302056 2012-09-19 04:17:00 Is it an ISP email account. Or something like a Gmail email address you're using in Outlook? I dont know of many pop servers that use SSL. Speedy Gonzales (78)
1302057 2012-09-19 04:49:00 Hi Speedy
I have ISP accounts on outlook but also a Gmail account.

1302058 2012-09-19 04:51:00 Hmmm
I just looked at the settings for the Gmail account and found the SSL box ticked. I have unticked it so we will see what happens.
Thanks
Guys

1302059 2012-09-19 04:55:00 Turning off/disabling the mail scanner gets rid of that message. Gmail scans incoming and Avast has realtime monitoring so it's only really for the paranoid. Renegade (16270)
1302060 2012-09-19 04:55:00 Its probably Gmail, since it uses SSL for sending Speedy Gonzales (78)
1302061 2012-09-20 01:22:00 Yes, it seems you are correct. The message hasn't displayed since I found and changed that setting.
Thanks for the help.
