1277764 2012-05-27 23:38:00 My step son who is still not quite 18 just passed his Private Pilots licence at the weekend, so good on him maybe we can save some money now since his Dad originally agreed to pay and then ran out of money.
So we paid for him to finish it. But it was still a great achievement on his part.

1277765 2012-05-27 23:50:00 Choice mate! An accomplishment like that is something to be proud of, and so should your stepson, even though he isn't the direct fruit of your loins you still play a part in the upbringing.

Question is: What would you save money towards now?! :D

Now, so long as he doesn't expect you to buy the plane as well..........

What Nick G said, just make sure he pays for your retirement, and then call it square ;-)

1277770 2012-05-28 00:58:00 Consider it as an investment for the future. Perhaps he may go on to become a rich commercial pilot and then pay for your retirement.

At eighteen I was struggling to get my heavy trade licence. That was a few years ago.

He considered commercial pilot but at the moment is leaning towards electrician as he loves electronics and stuff and is very hands on. He was also looking at the police but they don't want young white recruits and he doesn't want to go to Auckland anyway.

At eighteen myself I was only a year off getting my Carpentry/ Joinery trade as I left school at 15, not through choice but because back then my school stopped at the end of fifth form and there were no sixth form colleges, also with my birthday being in the summer holidays so 15 it was
