53056 2002-06-07 21:40:00 Recently I started having problems with my computer so I did a Scan Disk (set on thorough) and found my Seagate HD had 16,384 bytes bad sectors. I'm not at all happy with keeping this HD and frankly I believe it should be replaced under warranty. Comments anyone? Also are Seagate HDs especially prone to failure?

HD Specs: Seagate 20GB 5400 rpm. The computer is less than one year old and has a 3 year warrranty.

53057 2002-06-07 22:56:00 I've got a sea gate drive myself and have had no problems with it whatsoever....no bad sectors etc. I suggest you go o the seagate website and download their drive checker seagatetool and run that through your drive first...it does a more thorough and accurate job than scan disk. If it reports bad sectors then call your manufacturer and inform them of the problem and see what they say.
I'm not sure on drive life etc but less than a year seems very early to be having bad sector probs

53058 2002-06-07 23:54:00 Segate are not more likely to get bad sectors than any other harddrive brand. I am not sure whether you have a case saying it was faulty and asking for a replacment but mabye ring up segate and have a chat to them. There is also nothing unusual about you getting bad sectors so soon, its basically just bad luck, I have had harddrives die after a few months of use and a couple I have now have been going strong for 3 years so you really can't tell.
