| 53036 | 2002-06-07 14:58:00 | Would you buy a New Zealand made printer? One that would be fixable, would not cost a arm and a leg to refill jet ink, of course it would be a bit more expensive to purchase, Sorry just tring to put ideas in someone head, getting sick of the present situation. |

Firstly, unless they could manufacture all their parts in NZ as well (unlikely), they'll have to import parts from overseas, and this would add to the overall cost of the printer, and would probably make it more expensive than what we've got at the moment. Secondly, they wouldn't be able to keep the cost low due to BULK manufacturing, as their market would be very small. HP and similar companies can keep their manufacturing costs low, because they manufacture for a huge worldwide market, and unless a NZ competitor was also doing this, their costs would be much higher. Thirdly, if this company was starting up from scratch, they'd need to make a name for themselves first, rather than be like so many other IT companies around NZ that pop up and disappear before you have time to even blink. Its a VERY hard market to break in to. Now, if they could overcome all these problems, and offer a truly competitive product, I would consider it. But I would think about it first. Mike. |

| 53040 | 2002-06-08 03:23:00 | I tend to buy value for money and performance in about equal quantities... However, if I was going to buy a product sheerly for the purpose of owning something NZ made, I don't think it'd happen, as to really be beneficial to NZ it'd have to be designed, manufactured, marketed, sold and guaranteed by NZ companies... Besides, they'd likely be employing an overseas company to build large aspects of it, and just putting the bits together here... So realistically, I think NZ-Made is just like the PC Company's idea of NZ made really, that is to say; 'Put together in NZ, made in Taiwan and Costa Rica'... And while we're at it, let's have a Taiwanese CEO, and half our shares offshore! Good one... Erin |

Next they will be advertising that they support KiwiBank Regards, dippy :-) |
