| 52912 | 2002-06-07 03:03:00 | I know it's unusual but I'm almost convinced that I have a faulty ROM/BIOS chip. I guess the only way left to prove it is to replace it and here the problem starts. I've rang all the local computer companies and all they want to do is sell me a new computer! Assure me the problem is terminal! Anyway, for what it's worth I'm looking to purchase a well used chip (1997 vintage) which meets the following spec's: ROM PGI/ISA BIOS AWARD MODULAR BIOS v4.51pg AWARD Plug and Play BIOS Extention v1.0A 28pin (2x14) The above info was gleaned from various different sources Cheers Bob |

You are going to have to find someone with an identical mobo, convince them to let you 'borrow' the bios, and take it to someone with a device programmer (who will be able to copy it into a new chip). You have quite a mission on your hands! Good luck. |

The chip is in a socket, (28 pin, 2x14)and I think the mobo is a RHINO ITE 8679,097-027 (14th May,97) which may be of some help if someone has got an old board in there junk heap. I think there were once were thousands of these chips and mobos out there but I guess there a bit like Morris Minors these days. The existing chip is ok most of the time and can be encouraged to fire up with the application of a little hot air from wife's hair dryer. (A rather clumsy way to start the day and bound to fail eventually) Any suggestions as to a replacement mobo (complete)would be welcome. |
