53089 2002-06-08 01:18:00 My home network is really slow, I think. Small file copies from one t'other take 10s on minutes. Can u help? Have 2 PCs, both Win98SE, cross-over cable, 10/100 fast ethernet cards (no-name from Dick Smith). Under network settings have . client for m'soft network, microsoft family logon, 32 bit pci fast ethernet adapter [link speed set to duplex mode = 100 half mode], tcp/ip -> 32 bit pci fast ethernet adapter, tcp/ip dial up adapter. Have enabled file and print sharing on both. Both PCs are set up as network servers. Is this as good as it gets? Guest (0)
53090 2002-06-08 04:04:00 i suspect you have tweaked the mtu settings, most likely to help with modem speed. a way around this is to use another protocol (netbeui) for the file and printer sharing. it also can help with sircuity if you disable netbios(see www.grc.com). also set the cards link speed to auto.
