| 53374 | 2002-06-09 05:37:00 | Why can't I get high utilisation of my dial up, XP shows % utilised. I understand that speed is related to what your talking on(modem), thru(lines) & what they have got(server/modems). WHy can't I download lots of things from different servers and use the full 53.2k bandwidth or at least 80% of it? | Guest (0) | ||
| 53375 | 2002-06-09 05:49:00 | ...what download speed are you getting? 53.2k(bits) = 6.65kBytes with overheads of stop/start and error correction about 5kB should be seen, for 100%. May get slightly higher due to compression on some files, unsure how that reported in download speeds. Just remember your connect speed is in kilobits, your download speed is kiloBytes tj |

| 53378 | 2002-06-09 10:04:00 | 1) If your are downloading a highly compressable file, you can get download rates well in excess of your 'calculated max'. 2) Often at the begining of a download, part of a file has been brought down before the size/time calculation starts, resulting in a high initial figure that drops away as time goes on. |
