53371 2002-06-09 05:29:00 Hi, I have recently been getting emails from info@monster.co.nz with a size of about 94KB and no obvious attatchment. I checked the details of the email and they seem to be coming from a friend with a paradise email address. I think that there was files attatched and they have run themselves on my machine. There is now a lot of disk activity and CPU usage is through the roof. I tried installing McAfee Anti-V 6 but to no avail as it fails to load and if i open it manually it just closes. I am running Win2k professional and hit CTRL ALT DEL and found the programme that was using all the CPU power and it was a file called winkfln.exe and i tried to close it but windows wouldn't let me. I have shut down the computer and I leave it be until i have a remedy for this situation.

Thanks,
Brendon

53372 2002-06-09 06:36:00 It could be the Klez Virus. Each time I received it, it was about 93 or 94kb in size. Also the fact that you are unable to run your AV program could suggest the KLez virus as well.

There is a removal tool for the Klez, try the link below, remove the <> each end.

<securityresponse.symantec.com

This link will give you all the info on Klez plus a link to download the tool. Try getting it, run it and see what it coughs up.

In regards to the email itself, if you use Outlook Express try creating a Message Rule and block it or download and install MailWasher which will allow you to preview messages while still on the server.

Mailwasher is available from

www.maiwasher.net/

There is a beta version and a stable version. Your choice.
