| 53322 | 2002-06-09 01:58:00 | Ho Robo and fellow helpers. Am using Win 95 (yeah i know its old etc but trying to resurrect this machine.) When starting pc two things happen. 1)part way thru loading uncomes 'Untitled Microsoft Backup' which then goes thru and i have to close to continue startup..how can i stop this happening? 2)then most of the time I get a Registry Problem box which states 'encountered error in the system registry.please close programs and restart windows.you may lose some info from current session.Restarting will allow registry to reintialize' Ithen click restart and pc restarts and away it goes. help!!!!!!!!!! Also while I am on a roll..lol.there are programs I can not delete as it say unable to run uninstall program..???? help.. I know this is an old program (Win 95) but do not have start up or rescue discs...lost by kids...so bear with me please.your help would be greatly appreciated have a happy Sunday Richard |

| 53323 | 2002-06-09 04:11:00 | Boot to DOS, and see if you have a directory called C:\win95. If so, cd to that and type 'setup'. That will do a reinstall. (If whoever installed it did the 'right things' and copied the install files to the HD. Otherwise, you will have to find a CD and do the reinstall from that). | 53324 | 2002-06-09 08:41:00 | Greame, thanks for that..booted to dos but unable to locate file win95...guess to locate disc of windows 95 would be next step..however is there a microsoft site that it can be downloaded from onto the hardrive for reinstallation..have heard of this happening but is it truth or fiction..appreciate help Richard |

| 53325 | 2002-06-10 01:35:00 | Nothing wrong with using old stuff if it does what you want! Before you go on a disc hunt and reinstall, it might be worth having a shot at cleaning up the Register. Backup the Registry files first in case things turn to custard and you need to go back to the originals - run Regedit then choose Registry > Export Registry File; name the file. Cleanup utilities are Regclean (? downloadable from microsoft.com) and Regcleaner (www.jv16.org). There are probably others. |
