53308 2002-06-09 01:47:00 I am helping a friend out with their computer - the CD drive has stopped working and is not listed on windows explorer.( WIN 95 4.00.950B,cyrix processor, 32 RAM.)there are two hard drives and a LITE-on CD rom.I can boot using a win 98 start up disk and access the CD from that so I think the drive is ok.However there are yellow exclamation marks besides three of the hard disk controllers-(Primary IDE controller (single fifo) , secondary ide controller (single fifo) and standard ide/ESDI hard disk controller)I suspect that the setup of these controllers is the problem why the CD wont be recognised but Im not sure where to go from there. Also to enter the bios setup requires a password and as the computer has been around a while no one knows what this might be!Help!Any ideas much appreciated. 53312 2002-06-10 07:41:00 Thanks for suggestions.I did find an Award bios password work around on the net and it worked! Then found a suggestion from a previous press F 1 that had a link to a microsoft knowledge base page that suggested removing the word 'noide' from a place in the registry. This got rid of the yellow exclamation marks on the device manager and the CD was recognised straight away!Choice!
