53294 2002-06-08 23:58:00 About 6 weeks ago some-one posted a hint about arranging the area on the Tool-bar between 'Help'&IE Icon so as to accommodate Google, but I can't find it in the archives?

Help please!

53295 2002-06-09 00:42:00 Check out this link -
www.google.co.nz

Look at the column on the left 'Other ways to google'.
You can have a toolbar, or add a browser button, or (and this is what I did), make it so that when you press the 'Search' button on IE (with the icon of the world and magnifier), it opens up a google search in the new pane that opens on the left instead of the search engine it uses now.

Hope this helps.

53296 2002-06-09 01:22:00 I knew it would come in useful sometime ;-)

I copied and pasted that thread at the time:

------------------------
I have installed IE 6 and want to change the search engine to Google. Isn't there a script that can be typed into the address bar to change the default search engine ? ( I did it for IE 5.5 but cant remember how it goes ). PS - I know you can download the complete 'Toolbar' from Google but I wish to retain whats left of my viewing screen - another toolbar is not what I need.

--------------------
Click on Tools > Internet Options.

In the options window, click on the Languages button at the bottom, and make sure that English US is the first option in that list. Now click okay to close the two windows.

Now click the search button from the IE toolbar. In the box that appears on the side of the screen click the Custom Button. In the new window that opens up you should be able to set all your search settings, including your default search engine.

--------------------
In defence of the Google Toolbar, mine is on the file/edit/view/favorites/tools/help toolbar, between those words and the spinning ie windows logo. Takes up no viewing space at all.

--------------------
Did you put the Google search bar there and if so how? or did it put itself there.
I have often looked at the waste space on that row. EC

--------------------
Right click any toolbar, and remove the tick next to 'Lock the Toolbars', if locked (IE6 only I think)

Then move your curser to the re-size bar on the left hand size of the Google toobar (pointer turns to a double headed arrow), click and hold the left mouse button down and drag it to where you want it to go.

Right click the toolbar again and re-select Lock the Toolbars to hold it there.... done!

--------------------
Trying looking at this page:

www.google.com

Hope this helps!!

--------------------
Cheers - worked like a treat

There are some clever buggers around. I have moved my Google search bar into the wasted space. Man I love this, concise straight forward instructions that work. Cheers Jester you are the man

53297 2002-06-09 05:07:00 Thanks Neuromancer NZ for your tip but the one I wanted was the one that Susan B replied with,so thank you too Susan B.

I had put Pop-up Stopper Companion on in place of Pro and it takes up so much space.

It is very handy and does most of what 'spider' does without having to re-boot.
Also has a good 0ne click Hot-links or Favourites tab.
