53281 2002-06-08 22:41:00 Windows 98, Pentium II starts to load as usual, and then gets to a point where it reboots itself. There is a blue screen with an error message but it disappears too quickly to read.

Won't load in safe mode, and have tried restoring registry from safe mode with command prompt. Same result.

What else can I try? Other than a complete reformat.

53282 2002-06-08 23:06:00 If this has started happening after recently being in dos mode and playing a game or something similar try renaming autoexec.bat and config.sys .bak
what may have happened is that the game has changed these files which is causing greif with windows,

Other reason could be due to dodgy ram, (have you installed new ram recently or played around with the insides of ur computer)

and the other possibility is that windows has thrown a wobbly,
you could look in the \windows dir for win.bak and system.bak rename these to .ini
it may help you reload windows although you might find some progs no longer go.

53283 2002-06-08 23:34:00 that happened to me once, had me really stumped, turned out that there was a plug that wasn't quite in the hole somewhere. It also gave me random reboots after running OK for a while. I cant remember which plug, it was a long time ago, but if you open up the box, and push everything into the right holes HARD, the problem might go away. Guest (0)

53285 2002-06-09 04:15:00 Do you have an up_to_date anti virus programme? Some virus's/trojans change registry settings and this maybe the problem. Just a thought. Guest (0)
53286 2002-06-11 13:01:00 Hi Bunny, If you have been using DriveSpace to compress one of your drives, have a look at Q130018 on the MS knowledge base. It describes a continuous reboot loop on win 98.
