Look for it and see if it is there under system tools. Another more useful answer. Check that your temporary internet files directory isn't hugely full. Say over 5000 files. Use explorer, right click on temporary internet files folder and click properties. That could help. robo |

| 53620 | 2002-06-10 09:34:00 | Having had win98 and xp pro on my computer,I would actually say xp is faster than win98,certainly I have not noticed it slow down with upgrading to xp. One thing I have noticed is xp likes lots of ram,you could try upgrading your ram to 256m . I have noticed alot of cheap oem systems coming out with 128m of ram running xp,which in my opinion is marginal Microsoft say min system requirments are 233mhz cpu and 128m ram and if you know anything about min system requirments they are usually less than minimum. You could try reformating the hdd and starting again but if it is an oem pc you,ll probably have restore disks, which will load xp and all the other programs that you don,t want or need,so that won,t work, you could load someone elses copy of xp ...no that won,t work either, the bios is probably tied into the restore disks so you would have to change the mainboard as well. Hopefully you won,t have a pc like that! I have one last suggestion, go into system properties, click on advanced, performance, settings,on the visual effects tab, select adjust for best performance all the ticks should disappear,on the advanced tab make sure programs is selected for memory and cpu usage. good luck |

| 53622 | 2002-06-10 20:06:00 | Hello Richard, xp like all other os tends to accumalate a lot of information, that over time can make your computer bogg down. there is a cleanup system on board that might help some what. click start, my computer, rightclick your harddrive (probably C:) and click diskclean up. it will show you what can be deleted safely. Also in the same place, click the tab 'other options' there are options here that may help you also. http://www.tweak3d.net/ this web site shows some tweaks, but I suggest attempt these only if you feel competent. And as suggested, defrag is the way to go. cheers, Bob |

| 53623 | 2002-06-14 14:09:00 | i run xp with an 800 athlon. and it hums along very nicely thanks. it was an upgrade, however i run 384mb ram and i note that it requires approx 200 mb most of time. suggestions. clean out temp internet files and windows temp files. do disk cleanup. go to system properties in control panel/advanced/settings/visual effects/custom button and check only these three. 'show windows content while dragging. use background image for each folder and use visual styles on windows and buttons'. then hit advanced button and choose program for both options. go to this site < www.pacs-portal.co.uk > then run msconfig and ensure you are on selective startup and check against program list at site that no unneccesary programs are in your startup list. go to device manager and check write caching is enabled for your hard drives. i would endorse installing more ram. 256mb needed for comfort. a ram optimiser program such as ramidle -go to < http://www.tweaknow.com/ > may help until you increase your ram, although xp is said to control it's ram pretty well now. last thing do a defrag in safemode. safemode not neccesary but possibly will get better result. |
