As an example of personal experience I installed/upgraded my Win2K machine (P2-266, 384Mb RAM, Intel 440LX mobo, ISA sound card, external 56K modem, pci NIC, adaptec 2940uw SCSI controller (whch had 1 CD, 1 CDR, 2 disks, 1 tapedrive, 1 hp scanner), 3* IDE disks, 1*FDD) on oct 26 2001. No problems at all. Did the activation thing about 25/30 seconds over Internet and registered no probs. Then in May 2002 replaced mobo with Soltek Sl-75DRV5, 768MB DDR-RAM, threw out soundcard (just use on-board) new Athlon XP 2000+ CPU. I booted my machine up into Recovery Console mode ran through the repair subsection and up she all came. NO reactivation nada. I then reapplied all my XP updates... all runs VERY well.
