2002-06-11 05:10:00 | Anyone know just how far 'gater' can see into what people are doing on thier machines? If i am to continue using AG, i now have to except gater, or so it seems. | Guest (0) | |
2002-06-11 05:36:00 | oooohhhh, what a shame. I paid to become an AudioGalaxy Gold member and didn't have to download Gator as a pre-requisite. Must be only a must-do if you're trying to use the FREE AudioGalaxy. Being a Gold member means I don't see any ads either. And I'm on a fast server. All in all, I have no probs with AG. Maybe you should sign up?

2002-06-11 05:59:00 | I got a spyware-free version of AudioGalaxy. At least I HOPE it is spyware-free like they claim it is!! Ad-Aware hasn't found gator on my machine so maybe it is.

2002-06-11 06:03:00 | sanctimoniously yours, This is the first time in this forum where i have been tempted to write something utterly abusive in reply to something on 'f1'. But i shall restrain my self. 1. I have sent over 55gig of data to prats like you in the last 12 months, there is now a 13gig gap between what i have given, and the lesser amount i have taken copies of 2. This is a help group. I did not ask a stupid question, so a sensable answer would be expected. You tell me nothing about gaters role in audiogalaxy, apart from that it doesn't apply to 'gold members' I already knew that, obviously i am not a 'gold' member.

2002-06-11 06:06:00 | I've found on a couple of machines that adaware has some how been modified by the spyware so it doesn't pick it up. A reinstall seems to fix it.

2002-06-11 06:50:00 | Hi Chris, I got suckered into the 'upgrade to the latest version of Audiogalaxy' the other day..... When it got to the end of the download, it told me that I would have to install Gator as well. I very nearly uninstalled at that point. I am pretty sure that it isn't spyware, it just randomly puts humungus popup ads on your desktop (some of the ones I have had have completely covered the screen, and there is no way to click them off - I just have to stare at them till they disappear, which is a proverbial pain in the but..... I gave up Kazaa because of the spyware, so not that keen on losing AG - think I will just investigate a popup killer, and hope like hell that AG has no spyware.... I think us 'poor sods' with free versions have to like it or lump it - until we get a spyware killer LOL Regards, ALAN

2002-06-11 21:18:00 | Anyways back to the original question please..... How far does Gator look???? Although i blocked it from talking to the internet, was still running at start up, and i just realised that a full 2 minutes after rebooting that my HD was spinning full speed, atleast untill i told AG FSG (or whatever it is) to cease. also note of interest: i am trying winmx, when i start that i get a programme claiming to be OE asking for server rights... i assume this is the nonexistant spyware of winmx, a prog that claims to be spyware free..... mmmmmmm. gets what ya pay for i spose! BTW, i tried 3 searches in winmx, NONE gave me results, i tried last night and left it on for a couple of hours, and this morning tried for a couple of minutes, I'm not impressed, and don't see it as a good AG substitute.

Couple that with sharereactor.com and you will be unstoppable ;) with a decent connection anyway. You can find ANYTHING on that site, and it's spyware free too. Cheers, Lo. |
