53919 2002-06-11 23:46:00 most antivirus have a rescue disk that you make. find someone with an upto date rescue disk and use it to boot the pc(you must boot off the floppy and make the floppies write protect)

then run the antivirus off the floppy. note it will take ages(depending on system of corse) hopefully it should tell you what virus it is( mayby even fix it) so you can go get a repair tool from one of the antivirus sites.

53920 2002-06-12 03:05:00 Hi

Tell your member to go to housecall.antivirus.com amd run the free virus checker and cleanup program.

That should clean up the present viruses.

For budget conscious surfers, go to www.grisoft.com and download AVG 6.0 free edition. It is not quite as good as Nortons but it is free which should suit Senior Net's needs quite well. It is also better than McAfee (see June Consumer Mag) which your member could then uninstall if he wished.

Cheers

53921 2002-06-12 05:47:00 Yeah, I use AVG and find it very very good considering it's free. Has very good update, that is, AUTOMATIC! So you never have to remember to do it, it's always up-to-date. Guest (0)
