| 54347 | 2002-06-14 04:54:00 | My computer sometimes seems to run slowly and I get a white message board saying I am running low on system resources.I'm running 98 with 160ram and 2 gig free on a 6gig harddrive.I've run scandisk and defragmented and run disk cleanup. | Guest (0) | ||
| 54348 | 2002-06-14 06:09:00 | Its not disk space or memory related per se, but deals with applications that are runing or have run, have allocated resources for themselves and failed to release them when not needed. Windows allocates a finite amount it appears, and when it gets low it gets unstable You dont say anything about how long this takes from startup, or what you are running as applications. As an example when I used to run Windows ME, it was necessary to reboot at least 4 times a day to avoid this. There are some software packages to achieve the same thing but a reboot is free. Some applications are bad, particularly older ones in my experience. HTH |

| 54349 | 2002-06-14 06:51:00 | You may have 1 or 2 unwanted apps running in the background. Do the big alt-ctrl-del & see what's running. Try Start/Run/msconfig and have a look through the Startup tab. Deselect anything that you don't want running all the time. Then go to http://www.lavasoft.de & download Ad-Aware. Run that to see if you have any spyware. Have fun. :-) |

| 54350 | 2002-06-14 06:55:00 | Yeah, even when you close apps they still linger around using RAM (so they open quickly if you want them again). And web pages (which often have a lot of data) can also take up RAM. There are some memory management freeware apps which claim to clean out RAM when it gets overloaded, preventing slowdowns and crashes. I've used one called RAMbooster tho not entirely successfully. Fallback position is to use the Resource Meter in the system tools, which will give a warning when resources get low (under 10% of RAM) and if you have to reboot, you can at least shut stuff down in an orderly fashion. |

| 54352 | 2002-06-15 03:56:00 | I use memturbo plus though cacheman isn't bad as well ,uninstall all unnecessary programs , I found my PC goes faster without norton utils 2002 in it,I now use Fix-It slimmer and more effective too especially for registry maintainance am sticking with norton antivirus 2002 and also use ad-aware and PestPatrol excellent software for removal of trojans and spyware . | Guest (0) | ||
