54532 2002-06-15 23:00:00 Hi,

can someone help with a frustrating problem. The welcome screen for 98 just keeps coming up when starting the PC. I have unchecked the 'show on startup' box at least 20 times to no avail. I have checked the msconfig but can't see any reference to the welcome to windows screen. I do notice however that one item in the screen is ticked (setup system maintenance) if this has a bearingon it or not don't know. Also the startup folder is empty. Help wouldbe most appreciated.

54533 2002-06-16 02:44:00 The way I got rid of it was to use the tweakUI program that comes with the pcworld cdrom.

It has a boot section and I just unchecked display splashscreen.

54534 2002-06-16 10:41:00 I dont know the answer, but you can also get to the Welcome screen from:
Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools-Welcome to Windows.
It opens with the box checked by default even though it was previously unchecked. As a last resort try unchecking it here and see what happens.

In the meantime I'll try and find a registry reference to it.
