| 1304612 | 2012-10-02 03:21:00 | Seems weird that a new toner cart for my Bro 2140 would cost $84/1500 pages, $103/2600 pages, and $52/2600 pages for a non Bro one, when Warehouse Stationery have a HL2240D (duplex) for $79 with cashback. I'd be mad to replace my cartridge when it comes due. Then what would I do with my perfectly good 'old' 2140 with very low miles on the clock (not even through the original cart)? While I am a capitalist at heart, my mildly green instincts tell me there is something pretty wrong here. |

What also happens is sometimes the manufactures only put in starter cartridges, so they dont have full toners to start with. My Color laser is like that, the toner prices are huge, ($275 each) I'd be better off buying a new color laser, but I also use the scanner sometimes so thats why I dont. |

Great machine. When the ink runs out, just refill the cartridge. (No, the machine isnt as fussy about refill ink as they make out.) ;) When the head wears out, buy another printer. ;) It really is simple and you can buy the ink by the litre if you want. Joke on self: Ive got a couple of Canons sitting here still in their boxes. Bought them for $40 odd (each on special) and I havent managed to kill my old Canon MP250 yet. (God knows how many refills I've done.) Im starting to wonder just how long the heads and cartridges last in such a situation as these have sat for over 12 months. |

A bit of plastic and a bit of electronics and done . Can't be more than $40 or less in parts . Cartridges are also cheap but they can make their money off them . Bit like those games that are free to play but have heaps of in app purchases . Only place print cartridges aren't retardedly priced are for commercial printing systems like our A1 inkjets . 60ml cartridges for some $85 . Yeah expensive but they are long life HQ inks for commercial prints . The A3 Epson machines are more expensive but the school pays for them, the volume of printing would make it much better to have a continous ink system but they don't want to incase is buggers up, we run the printers near constantly . |

| 1304620 | 2012-10-02 05:49:00 | Seems weird that a new toner cart for my Bro 2140 would cost $84/1500 pages, $103/2600 pages, and $52/2600 pages for a non Bro one, when Warehouse Stationery have a HL2240D (duplex) for $79 with cashback. This is the problem with the cheap printers. I makes no difference whether it's inkjet or laser. When you buy a printer check this first, then get one that does lots of pages per cartridge/toner and doesn't cost heaps for the cartridge/toners. Can be tricky, you may need to check quite a few, but there are printers - ink or laser - that do this. |

| 1304621 | 2012-10-02 06:13:00 | I’m starting to wonder just how long the heads and cartridges last in such a situation as these have sat for over 12 months. Cartridges are likely dried out if they were in the printer and not in sealed bags. Heads might need a few cleaning passes before they're usable again. HERE (www.trademe.co.nz) Should have said, that $5k price was for official ink from HP etc, not some el-cheapo copy. |
