1303811 2012-09-28 08:59:00 Hi,
Any thoughts on the above graphics card? If I have to get new computer, this card will come with it. Also Win 7 Home premium 64 Bit, 8 GB RAM.

1303813 2012-09-28 10:42:00 What are you using the PC for? The 6670 is by no means high spec any more but if you're not doing top-end gaming (Or if you're just doing browsing / email / facebook) then it's absolute overkill! Chilling_Silence (9)

1303815 2012-09-28 10:45:00 If I get a new one it will be a custom built desktop from Millenium Technology. Son will use it mostly, gaming, and using graphics intensive programs.
It would be nice to have about $3000 to spend, but can't afford that much!

1303816 2012-09-28 10:50:00 Budget? I feel like playtech and/or computerlounge will do you a better pre-built deal.

Take a look: www.computerlounge.co.nz/systems/systems.asp

This is what I'm looking at, at the moment.

1303818 2012-09-28 12:27:00 wouldn't trust it. That'll likely cheap out on the power supply, and definitely on the graphics card, which are the most (not even arguably) the most important components in a gaming system.

You don't /need/ to have 3000 dollars, you can get something decent spec for a fair bit of dosh, but the things you absolutely can't cheap out on in a gaming system are those two components. It goes PSU GPU CPU motherboard ram in that order. You can get a cheaper CPU and upgrade it later, you don't necessarily need a do everything motherboard.

For example, lower spec motherboards will often not support overclocking or have multiple graphics cards slots. Fair enough, if you're buying one great card to begin with you won't need another. And you won't likely be overclocking either.

Also you're paying for MS office which you do not, I repeat, do not need. Just get apache open office, or libre office. Either will suffice. Hell, even google docs can work wonders.

Either get it done by playtech, computerlounge, or one of the geezers here.

edit - This said, what do you mean by 'graphics intensive' because video and image editing can get pretty cpu/ram heavy. But still, they're doable at a later date.

Better GPU, you know the PSU you're getting...

Or if you're on a tight budget, grab one of these: pbtech.co.nz

Don't forget its around $150 for Win7 on top of those two prices also.

1303820 2012-09-28 14:24:00 Edit: Chill's post seems to top Playtech for value. Cooler Master psu's *should* be ok. icow (15313)
