1280209 2012-06-07 01:32:00 Just had a person call up, saying their PC, which has Windows ME it sounds like the HDD is making a clicking (clunking) sound and wont boot. It actually says theres a hard Drive problem, so he said.

Now apparently its done it several times, each time getting worse. I suggested the HDD may have failed as its known as the "click of death" While there are methods to recover data, it depends on how much they want to pay - if a data recovery professional company was to do it it could easily cost $1000 or more.

He brought it around, and basically wanted me to recover and fix it NOW  - well hello, I have lots of other work on, and told him its not going to be a quick fix to get it going, and could take a few days just depending on whats wrong.

BUT its urgent as he has to have it back and working today and cant afford to lose any data, but hes not willing to pay that much to have it recovered either -- Asked him how old were his backups ;) care to guess what the reply was ??

He walked off saying he'd take it elsewhere ( good luck on that) ;)

1280211 2012-06-07 01:43:00 Bloody slack techs ... it shouldn't take any longer than 5 minutes to fix ANY computer .... SP8's (9836)
1280212 2012-06-07 01:47:00 Of course, that data will slowly become less and less important as it dawns on him that you /weren't/ just being an *******. 8ftmetalhaed (14526)
1280213 2012-06-07 01:48:00 Well, I've had them in the workshop, sobbing, this after I had provided backup hardware and procedures, which they then ignored.... pctek (84)
1280214 2012-06-07 01:48:00 Yeah I'm with CYaBro, some customers just aren't worth knowing... Sure their money is as green as the rest, but it's not always just about the bottom dollar.

Gotta wonder huh? :D

1280217 2012-06-07 03:44:00 How long until he's back begging you to recover it as everyone else has said the same thing as you, and has added that they don't need his money? Nick G (16709)
1280218 2012-06-07 05:16:00 Fail.
