2012-06-06 20:03:00 | Is there such thing as a colour neutral sunglasses? I found that Oakley ski googles are pretty neutral. A pair of cK is green as per the tint colour. I have a overseas prescription sunnies and it has a bit more contast and clearer but it is a bit more redder. One I got in NZ, just plain sunglasses with rimless frames at the Optometrist (non prescription), was more neutral but had less contrast did have a dark or grey feel to it. Again, there's no one simple answer. Generally, a grey tint or a polariser is the most colour neutral option. However, some of the fancy coated lenses can have strongly coloured reflections (eg green or gold appearance to the front surface) and still have a remarkably neutral transmission, so you can't just write off the shiney coloured ones either. The so-called Contrast Enhancing lenses are typically yellow and do distory colours (they block blue, making it look dark).

2012-06-06 20:13:00 | Mine are optical glass! The bad news for you there is that glass is becoming a thing of the past, for a variety of reasons. It's no longer acceptable for safety specs, it's heavier, it doesn't have the same UV protection. I can't supply you glass from the confines of the corporation I work for. If you want glass you may have to hunt down an independant (non corporate) practice. I do sympathise with those that do work in an industry with a high risk of abrasion, as plastic is very vulnerable to scratching. Sadly, the desk-based tossers who decide that 'we won't do glass' don't have any appreciation of the working environments outside of their whimpy city desk. Polycarbonate (one variety of plastic) is just superb for impact resistance, and it is impact accidents that tend to cause the biggest mess (when a glass lens breaks it can be more hazardous than the object that broke it), so from a safety point of view it's a clear choice of plastic. From a scratch perspective however it's a difficult choice for many people. Stay away from anti-reflective coatings if you have scratch concerns.

2012-06-07 01:52:00 | $2.00 shop last about 3 weeks. That's fine if you just have old age long sightedness. Useless for those of us with other problems.

2012-06-12 04:18:00 | Glasses ordered 2 June. Arrived today. In a cloth bag, inside a hard glasses case. Came with mini tool, has 2 types on tiny screwdriver on it. Also a cleaning cloth. They look how they showed in the picture. lenses are not uneven or thick in any weird way, as I wanted, and the prescription seems the same as my others - not a scientific method of testing I know, but seems the same. Little bit of getting to used to as the lenses are small, as recommended by Paul, and my last ones were a lot bigger. But these look a lot better. Can't find a reason not to give them 10/10.

2012-06-12 06:24:00 | Paul, what is your view on those tinted sunglass lenses one finds in many optometrists. I don't know the brand but they together on a set with different color tints. I know one could get Oakley but expensive, have some ski googles, like them might get a pair of normal sunnies in the future but the prescription ones are maybe too expensive. | Nomad (952) | |
