1280167 2012-06-08 16:40:00 I hate that chick on the Big Save furniture ad, surely they can afford a decent looking girl or at least a voice over

This. I cannot stand her at all, and makes me want to not go near any big save store.

Pakeha was a word they used to mean British European.
White is a colour, and I doubt you are even if you do suffer from albinoism.

I don't see why you get your knickers in a twist about it. Didn't your mother ever tell you that sticks and stones will break my bones but names will never hurt me.:crying

1280173 2012-06-08 23:55:00 I don't go describing black, or brown colored people as the N word, so why should they, or other people call us Pakiha.

I know they are two different meanings, but I feel personally, at least to me, that Pakiha is the N word equivalent of a white person, If I don't call you a "N word" please don't call me pakiha in return, is how I see it.

I'm waiting for all the angry response, about that i know **** all etc.. But I don't care. What i'm trying to say is, When someone call's me Pakiha, i feel the same way as if a black person would feel when called the "n word". I don't like the term, and I don't like it being used to describe me.

I think it's just the way the ads are done, with over-hyped enthusiasm. I don't think it would matter who was doing it, it would still be annoying.

Funny the people with dark skins get their knickers in a twist when they are referred to as *******.
There is no diff both words are insults.

1280176 2012-06-09 00:30:00 Pakiha [sic] is the N word equivalent of a white person, If I don't call you a "N word" please don't call me pakiha in return, is how I see it.

There is no such word as "pakiha", I assume you mean "pakeha". And I also assume you mean "word" rather than a "phrase" as you refer to it earlier.

The word itself is derived from ‘Pakepakeha’, a mythical human-like being with fair skin and hair. Originally Pakeha were the early European settlers, however, today ‘Pakeha’ is used to describe any peoples of non-Maori or non-Polynesian heritage. Pakeha is not an ethnicity but rather a way to differentiate between the historical origins of our settlers, the Polynesians and the Europeans, the Maori and the other.

You refer to the "N" word. I've only come across its usage in North America, where black people commonly use it as a disparaging insult to low life of their race.

That some kiwis choose to object to the word pakeha seems to underline their own low life, red neck attitudes. If the cap fits, wear it.
