1304420 2012-10-02 00:02:00 My grandparents' Toshiba laptop did the same thing, though its setup program had an annoying habit of rebooting each time it installed a program that needed it, rather than waiting and doing it all at once.
My brothers was a Toshiba as well.

1304421 2012-10-02 00:56:00 I set up my PC yesterday - see my new specs - I ended up rebooting about 4 or 5 times. ChazTheGeek (16619)
1304422 2012-10-02 05:17:00 Without trolling .. in your opinion; do you think Windows is harder on hardware with all the restarts etc?

I doubt it since they will be 'soft' restarts.

Starting from cold however does put more stress on the hardware.

1304423 2012-10-02 07:09:00 I'm sitting here glancing at my broadband modem ( running Linux ) and compared to Windows there is hardly any activity apart from when I am accessing something unlike Windows which seems to have continual activity.
As well as that Linux is much more efficient at using a hard disk. I have never even tried to defrag one and wouldn't even know how to.

And usually a Linux distro will be paging nothing.

Yes. I have got FF, TB, Lazarus ( with many windows open ) and a game open. It is using 50% and no swap.

I have more important things in life to worry about, than if my SSD will last 10 or 15 years

I mean seriously if this is something that really worries you, you'll probably enjoy running Linux as desktop OS.

Sorry for being glib...
