1303821 2012-09-28 23:12:00 wouldn't trust it . That'll likely cheap out on the power supply, and definitely on the graphics card, which are the most (not even arguably) the most important components in a gaming system .

You don't /need/ to have 3000 dollars, you can get something decent spec for a fair bit of dosh, but the things you absolutely can't cheap out on in a gaming system are those two components . It goes PSU GPU CPU motherboard ram in that order . You can get a cheaper CPU and upgrade it later, you don't necessarily need a do everything motherboard .

For example, lower spec motherboards will often not support overclocking or have multiple graphics cards slots . Fair enough, if you're buying one great card to begin with you won't need another . And you won't likely be overclocking either .

Also you're paying for MS office which you do not, I repeat, do not need . Just get apache open office, or libre office . Either will suffice . Hell, even google docs can work wonders .

Either get it done by playtech, computerlounge, or one of the geezers here .

edit - This said, what do you mean by 'graphics intensive' because video and image editing can get pretty cpu/ram heavy . But still, they're doable at a later date .

Windows 7 is included in the price .
MS Office is in the list as an optional extra, I have it on the other computer so can just have it transferred over if necessary . I also have Open Office, and use Google Docs on my Android .
I have no intention of overclocking . Son uses Carrara 7, Photoshop CS, He also has some games, Battlefied 2142, COD4 , Sturmovik .

I will check out Playtech and Computer lounge and see what I could get from them .
Thanks for all the tips and suggestions everyone!

Hopefully I won't need to buy a new one anyway, if the other can be fixed .

Better GPU, you know the PSU you're getting...

Or if you're on a tight budget, grab one of these: pbtech.co.nz

Don't forget its around $150 for Win7 on top of those two prices also.

I have made an enquiry about this one. pbtech.co.nz

Hopefully will hear back from them sometime.

1303824 2012-09-29 00:39:00 That's pretty much a newer iteration of my PC, and mine does fine. 5770 with a coolermaster PSU. Not fantastic, but /far/ better than the knock off brands advertised by some places.

He mightn't be able to play all his favourite games with /all/ the settings maxed, but it should do pretty damn well.

oh and edit, you will have to grab a copy of windows with it, but ask if they can cut a few dollars off the price when you do. It won't push it too far past the other one you're looking at, and will still get you a far better deal.

Thanks for your comments, yes I have asked for a quote with Win 7 and gst and shipping included.
I'll probably need some help transferring the stuff on my ext hdd to new computer, (if I have to get one).
Hope Win 7 will accept everything from old Vista machine ok.

Likely? Certainly. That page makes no mention of the PSU at all, which means they don't want you to know what it is, because it will be rubbish.

If it was anything decent, they would proudly list it.

1303827 2012-09-29 04:31:00 Agent_24,
Yes I agree, I was going to query that as well. Obviously the PBTech one is better all round!
Still, I will wait and see what Milenium have to say about my other one. Will have to wait till Monday though, they are not open Sundays.

1303828 2012-09-29 10:03:00 Well good luck with it all.
As for shifting from vista, you might be able to do an in place upgrade, if they're both of the right versions and such. Otherwise enjoy doing a fresh, speedy install of a much less bloated operating system. They're typically the same sort of pony though, though windows 7 is like a different colour, faster and doesn't buck you off nearly as much.

1303829 2012-09-29 10:27:00 Well, I have just bought this one! pbtech.co.nz
plus Windows Home Premium 64 bit. $1,251 all up. Will probably sell the Vista one when I get it back from Millenium.
