54703 2002-06-17 00:46:00 I'm about to set up internet access for a lovely conservative old couple. They will be horrified as soon as the standard porn-spam starts rolling in
I'm considering setting them up with a ihug account using I-spy as the filter.

Anyone here tried it?
Any other suggestions, keeping in mind that these people went and bought their first computer, and need a hand to plug it all together. Suggestions must be simple to maintain!

54704 2002-06-17 03:57:00 My parents are with Ihug and i hooked them up with I-spy, basically because i got sick of fixing their computer after a virus attack because the anti-virus software would not update.

I think it is a good idea, as it doesn't involve them having to know too much. Worrying them about virus porn etc could also put them off using the net.

So as far as i know my parents have been pleased with the i-spy service. (lets just say i havn't had to go fix there computer in ages)

54705 2002-06-17 10:05:00 I've been with Clearnet since they started and have never received spam. They have a spam filter which appears to work rather well! Guest (0)
54706 2002-06-17 22:58:00 Thanks Roofus,

In the end the question becomes irrelevant because sales people being what they are, gave them a nice Xtra disk with the new comp. This was the bees knees to them!

Still it's good to know that i-spy works to some extent, as i find myself helping new people alot these days. If you do get the chance to find out how effective it is at blocking porn spam and the such like, i would be most interested in knowing for future referance.

Thanks Again,
Chris.

54707 2002-06-22 03:53:00 I am with Ihug and Ispy and on a couple of occasions I have recieved a message from Ihug to say that they have intercepted a virus. I have not had any since joining there system. I do not subscribe to the anti spam intercept so can make no comment . But I would recommend the Ispy D Bolton (447)
54708 2002-06-22 04:09:00 hi,

my family has been with ihug for several years now (without ispy) and have never recieved any spam or porn. we got a free six month subscription to it the other day but i wouldn't know whether it has had any effect. if they have norton antivirus, why not just enable email protection?
