| 54872 | 2002-06-17 23:33:00 | It would be nice to think that if there were no piracy that software vendors might charge lower prices, i.e that present prices are high to try to make up from legit users the shortfall from what they don't make out of pirated material. However, how many of us think that is so? It may be that it is only the possibility of piracy that makes them keep their prices as low (????) as they are. With no piracy they would be in more of a position to charge whatever they really want to, which is -- up, Up, uP and UP. | Guest (0) | ||
| 54873 | 2002-06-18 03:28:00 | Personally I believe there is little to no consideration of piracy when determining the price of software. Software price is set based on the cost of making the software (more than we can imagine) and whatever profits are manageable on top of these costs. Set the price too high, and nobody will buy the product. Set it lower and sure, people will buy it, but they won't be making any money for the companies to survive. These examples are VERY simplified, so please take with a pinch of salt! Mike. |

If they lowered the prices there would be less piracy, however, if you lowered the piracy the prices would have no reason to dip... Harsh world. :) Erin |
