54779 2002-06-17 06:53:00 In the last couple of weeks when I have been tried to download files they seem to just crash. I have tried files from just 20Kb to 5Mb from various different servers, using IE, Netscape 4.7 and Opera 6.0 and on two different PC's, and they all come up with similar responses. IE says the connection between the server was broken, Netscape says it has a network error and Opera just restarts downloading the file over and over again. I have recently scanned my PC for viruse thinking it might be one of them. I have not succesfully downloaded a file since. All the wep pages load fine, and I'm running Win98.

I hope someone has a answer.

54780 2002-06-17 07:58:00 Hi Patrick.

I can only think of a reason, not an answer. mayby it will help someone else work it out.

Anyways it might be that your connection has a problem downling in binary. You said that web pages download ok and that uses ASCII, not binary.

If this sounds like rubbish just ignor it.

54782 2002-06-17 12:58:00 Hi Patrick,

I had a similar problem recently with IE6 on Win98SE. After much fiddling around I traced it to a broken ActiveX program. See my post here: www.idg.net.nz

You could try deleting your ActiveX programs (they are easily replaced automatically when required). From Explorer go to c:\windows\downloaded program files. Right mouse click on the ActiveX files and choose remove.

Hope this helps,
Rod.

Yes, you're right, that's pretty much my take on the problem I was having. Web pages loaded fine, but try and download a program file ... no go!

Cheers,
Rod.

Deleting all the files in the Downloaded program files folder works, and at long last downloading is no problem anymore.

Thanks
Patrick
