55207 2002-06-19 10:00:00 WinMX is a great (free) piece of software with lots of users worldwide giving great search results. Current version is 3.0 You can even download whole movies if you have the bandwidth available. (have to scroll through all the porn though)

55209 2002-06-19 12:07:00 I hear a lot of ppl are jumping over to 'www.filetopia.org' ... Have tried it myself, but still learning! ;) Guest (0)
55210 2002-06-19 12:42:00 Actually, I've pretty much given up the MP3 scene. I'm over the buzz I 'spose. I downloaded enough over my 56k to fill 8 cd's, all at varying bit rates, with most of them having a sub standard quality.

I can ony play the CDs on the laptop, unless I burn to audio CD. Which by my reckoning would take 150 - 200 blanks.

I get mine from the warewhare now... no download time, doesn't fill up the hard drive, all songs are complete and don't have the ends chopped off. Oh, and CD quality to!

55211 2002-06-20 23:10:00 kazaa lite is good as is winmx have too many mp3s 3000 plus to listen to now, more into the movies divx but you really need cable to get larger files take over a month otherwise lol kiwibeat (304)
55212 2002-06-20 23:32:00 i got 11,000 using AG on a cable modem in just over a year.
Am currently trying winmx. so far i have managed to locate absolutely none of what i have searched for, and about 3 of my 1,280 shared filed have been accessed in 24hrs. Winmx seems a bandwidth hog, it is ALWAYS sending masses of data in and out. It hogs my connection to the point where everything else is slugging away like i'm on a bad dial up connection. It also hogs CPU power, something i don't have alot of, being a 450meg machine..

AG has left me a spoilt brat, i had it all and i still want it!

This spell check is funny, it wants to change 24hrs to Thursday!

55213 2002-06-21 00:14:00 Hey Chris,

I'm also a spoilt brat AG Gold user (pissed off about paying for something that don't exist anymore too!), and am trying out several P2P programs. This is my current opinion:

AudioGalaxy - love you, but RIP
Kazaa - read the signup info VERY carefully and avoid the spyware. Very resource hungry and not as good as AG, but still okay.
Filetopia - seems to be okay, not very quick to d/l files though (even using Jetstream), and most of the regulars resent the sudden influx of 'newbies' and won't file-share.

Am going to try a few more before I settle on just one... still, I miss the ease of AG Gold - first Napster, then AG, I reckon Kazaa will be next...

Still like to support my favourite local and international bands by buying their CD's. You get better quality and they're starting to include more features and add-ons - about bloody time!
