55124 2002-06-19 01:14:00 Under Windows 98SE and Outlook Express 5.5, attached JPEGs open automatically in the preview pane. How do I stop this? It didn't happen under 5.0. Guest (0)
55125 2002-06-19 01:48:00 I don't believe there is anyway you can stop this at your end.

The person sending the email can disable this option.

In Outlook Express open new mail or compose, click format, remove tick from 'Send Picture with Message'

Tried your fix but problem still persists. JPEGs not only appear in preview box on incoming emails but also when sending they show up in the outbox.

55128 2002-06-19 11:06:00 Hi John

In OE 5.5/6 (update anyway and get all the patches) MS or PCWorld cover CD) go to View> Layout and uncheck the Show preview pane.

You can also make a rule that highlights, blocks or even deletes any messages with attachments. Go, Tools> Message Rules> Mail Rules> New (button), sroll down in box 1 untill you find the rule you wish to apply (Where the message contains an attachment) in box 2 check the action you want to apply eg. Highlite it with colour. Box 3 select your colour by clicking on the colour link. Box 4, give your rule a name, if rule # 1 doesn't grab you.

Have a look around in there. you can block people or addresses, delete, etc.

PS> Having the preview pane turned off is a safer option to help avoid self activating nasties attached or hidden in emails.
