55225 2002-06-20 12:32:00 Hi. Marty, Tech and the last fellow's post all have great and true points. An MCSE is a great way to go, but it usually only pays off in the short term if you go private. Helpdesk pay at level 1 and 2 as mentioned is poor, but also as mentioned, it gives an "in" to higher positions. Realistically, expect 2 years of study, then 2 years of humble work, and by the fifth you should be looking good.

If you want to shortcut it, then get yourself really into it on your own, ie use the Internet and your puter a lot, mess up, fix things, and gain enough cred to get through an interview for a basic helpdesk role, then learn as ya go, and take advantage of internal training oppo's. Telecom's Xtra and their contractors are a great place to start. I did all the above, and now have a full time job at respectable pay, plus developing my own biz on the side, with heaps of oppo's in store.
