I dont have a set of Recovery Disks or Recovery cd's (as I brought one in 1999) but I do have a one cd for each thing. Like: my Operating System, sound, video, mboard, monitor, modem etc... Am I disadvantaged in this any way, compared to people who have recovery cds? In my opinion, (im not sure, but liked to be corrected) would it be harder for people to 'upgrade' to another operating system because all of the drivers etc.. + O.S are on this Recovery cd? Hope this makes sense |

In your position, the goods are that you have a single cdrom for each, which means that if you have to reload a video driver or sound driver you can do so with out doing a complete recovery. On the bad side if you have to do a complete recovery its going to take alittle more time. If you wish to have both then I would suggest making a ghost image and burning it to a cdrom. Then you will have the best of both worlds. |

While all drivers etc are usually on the recovery CDs, bear in mind that they are usually out of date as bug fixes etc have occurred so getting them via the web is preferrable. Overall I would go with your system, particularly for upgrading OS, as you may in some cases have to actually load the old OS and upgrade, whereas you can just show it your CD. Probably varies between systems. My experience has been that recovery CD was almost as good. |
