| 55138 | 2002-06-19 02:36:00 | I've been checking my bandwidth at http://www.soho-systems.co.nz/ only to find it very slow, between 20 and 30ish on my 56k dial up con. My telly's in the task bar say I'm happily at 48 most of the time, does anyone on dial up get closer to what they had hoped was correct or do the isp's start fast and the slow it down immediatly after connection, for show?? | Guest (0) | ||

This is easily affected by internet congestion, or a slow computer in between you ant the test webpage. Your connection status shows your connection speed to the network (ie, XtraMSN or ClearNet). Some times this may drop, as this only shows your original connection speed. Though this often has little if any effect on your download speeds. |

| 55140 | 2002-06-19 07:00:00 | Hi Trev, I went to the site mentioned and got this result: Your line speed: 4080Kbps 500K bytes/sec This is a direct copy and past, and I am on a dail up connection with Paradise showing 49333 bps, Win98, Opera 6.03. (Wish it were true!!). The best site I have found to get the best out of your internet is: home.aol.com Please read all of the instructions FIRST especially if you are not familar with the Registry. The index to the different tweaks is right at the bottom. You never know you may be able to get 4080Kbs too??????? |

| 55144 | 2002-06-20 23:30:00 | sorry guys, I did post a few times now, but here goes again.. I have now connected at Rodgers speed and that is possibly because it's now cached (JM) but the speed still does change. I have now clocked in at 8864! also once so I wonder if that means anything? or nothing?! There is another site (that I've seen posted here at F1) to clock in at, which is even more disappointing, 13kbps at the low end and that's at gemal.dk It could be that it doesn't mean anything Dylan, as I haven't noticed anything unusual (apart from paradise being near useless at the mo, getting on wise being a bit of a toss up and when ever I do get on I have to wait before any info is sent or recieved for some reason) the comp should be Ok.. 1.3XP IE6 384Mb ram, etc I have heard (here) that winding the modem back might speed things up, so I might give that a go if I find out how.. given that I don't get much above 25Kb on these tests!! OK I'll go check Axels site first for some clues.. thanks guys |

| 55145 | 2002-06-21 00:09:00 | my prefered way to test bandwidth is to find a good known local server and download a movie,mp3(any compressed file) with a downloader app that displays the download speed. at the mo mine is 2.88kB/s which can go up to 5kB/s if i download an uncompressed file.
