2002-06-21 03:54:00 | I was wondering if we have peeps using SO6 or OO1 on Windows platform at this forum? I would be keen to discuss your installation experience plus its usability. | nzStan (440) | |
2002-06-21 04:07:00 | I use OO on win98 and it installed fine. I'm not a regular user (word97 has grammer check), I only use it when I have to open XLS/PPT files.

2002-06-21 04:21:00 | So you wouldn't replace your MS Office with OpenOffice? | nzStan (440) | |
2002-06-21 04:34:00 | Have been using StarOffice5.2 under RedHat Linux 7.0 and WIndows 2k for some time. Recently changed over to OpenOffice and am finding it good (except spellchecker does not always run correctly). At home have done a multi-user installation on RedHat - works well. I use OpenOffice for all my work now - under Linux at home and Windows at work.

2002-06-21 04:40:00 | Hi John I have loaded Open Office under Redhat 7.3 at home and plan to use it (and get the kids to) all the time. Only problem is that when they try to print any fancy fonts (downloaded from internet) for their homework, OO prints as basic/bolded font - although OO shows it OK on the screen. Any ideas on where to from here? TIA

2002-06-21 05:23:00 | My main problem appears to be incompatibility with embedded/link objects. Eg I have a Word 2000 doc with a linked Excel2000 spreadsheet. Each time I open the Word2000 document it would crash. Saving the Excel 2000 spreadsheet as a StarOffice spreadsheet and relinking it back again to a StarOffice text document has no effect (ie still crash the program). I am evaluating the conversion of my company from MS Office to StarOffice. I would appreciate linking up with anyone out there who has successfully done the migration.

2002-06-21 05:42:00 | I'm not particularly attached to word, but I do like the grammer checking (because I'm lazy). If I didn't already have a copy of word I would have no problem using OO instead.

2002-06-22 06:02:00 | Not sure what the problem is here - I often use Verdana font. In a file taken into Linux OO the font looks fine. If I import the Windows Verdana font into Linux OO, the font looks bold - sounds like the same problem. Have done no investigation on this et. | JohnD (509) | |
