55508 2002-06-20 21:56:00 My home computer runs Windows ME/MS Works Word Processor.

My work computer runs Windows 98SE/MS Word 2000.

I composed an e-mail at home with a Works .wps attachment, and sent it to work. Upon trying to open the attachment at work Word 2000 said it could not open the .wps file, and requested I insert my Word 2000 CD so that it could load a file required to read the attachment.

I did this, but since then on trying to open Word 2000 everything locks up and I have to re-start to use any other program.

I have deleted (through add/delete programs) and re-loaded Word 2000 but still cannot open it.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Ray.

I wonder if when you deleted Word 2000 you deleted a "shared file" that may have given rise to the problem. Just a thought. Since you've reinstalled it I can't see why the problem is still occuring and I'm hesitant to suggest you might need to reload your Windows installation as a result.

55510 2002-06-20 23:30:00 Hi Ray (m?)

Word 2000 and Works are fully compatible. I have a pile of *.WPS files and but since I use Office 2000 exclusively now I convert them as I go.

Works spreadsheets *.WKS are a bit more problematic and you have to use works to save them in Excel format before opening in Excel 2000.

Sounds like your problems are related to program faults.
