55540 2002-06-20 21:15:00 We now have the ability to have FAQs treated differently here so we should have a go at building it up.
I have to track down my list of volunteers but we had a huge list of topics (Graham Petrie and Wuppo and Kerry B and Murrary P and GMcG did offer to help back in April)
We need to divvy these up, if you post a message and take a number and see what we can do. People power!

55542 2002-06-20 21:41:00 Tazzie, how about number 1?
Although how do you cover someone with Win98 or Win98SE upgrade disk. Would love a way of avoiding installing Win95 just to upgrade.

55543 2002-06-20 22:20:00 umm robo if you've just got the upgrade disk, you can usually just use that and it will ask for you to install the win95 (or whatever) disc to confirm that you do have the previous version.

This can work with doing a clean installation of win98se, you can use the full set of win3.11 disks as confirmation.

55544 2002-06-21 00:01:00 3 more FAQs:

Q. My file extension is .xxx and the file won't open. What program do I use?

A. The file extension usually tells your operating system which program created your file and therefore which program is required to open it.

Check for the file extension and program required at http://filext.com/

Q. I only want to READ the file, not buy a full version of a Microsoft product!

A. Microsoft provide free Viewer programs for many Microsoft products. Search for the Viewer you require here: www.microsoft.com (Type "xxx Viewer" in the Search box where xxx is the name of the program)

Q. Where can I find a program to do x?

A. Check out these sites:

http://tucows.ihug.co.nz/
http://tucows.com/

.....

(I'd find this really handy. People have suggested sites in the past and I didn't write them down)

55545 2002-06-21 00:17:00 What luck! Just as I finally have a little time free, this pops up. Where do you want me to start? Graham Petrie (449)
55546 2002-06-21 00:18:00 Oh, just had a thought, would links to pages that already have really good answers suffice, or would you prefer a new answer. Also, what is the policy on "copy/paste". :-) Graham Petrie (449)
55547 2002-06-21 01:02:00 Number 1 is sweet as......:)

yes in relation to Grahams question...............do you want us to reinvent the wheel?
TazzieNZ (463)
55548 2002-06-21 06:07:00 No, but we can't steal stuff.
Best to make our own version but can use something for a bit of source material.
