| 55475 | 2002-06-20 12:56:00 | I'm running XP Pro, and can connect to the net OK. But after having been connected for several hours (exact number not known) if I am disconnected then dial in again, the PC handshakes with my ISP, my password etc is accepted and I am connected. But then no data will flow. I am unable to access any email or web sites. Rebooting is the only option at this point. I have tried a new modem, and several ISP's, all to no avail. This problem only occurs once I have been disconnected, staying online all the time allows normal data flow, but is not possible as my ISP automatically kicks me off after 24 hours. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks, Albert. | Albert (482) | ||

If you are communicating with a particularly bad connection or server then the error rate will be greater........................ With internal modems the only way to reset them is to reboot the computer............ If you are getting several hours without issue then I would be happy :) If restarting bugs you then invest in an external modem............if you want 24/7 connections then consider Jetstream Starter.............. |

| 55477 | 2002-06-20 21:51:00 | I actually have a similar problem, except sometimes I get the ol' "connection with no data flow" problem when I first start the computer or after reboot even. I just try reconnecting and the second or third time it usually works. <<--- is keen to hear more comments :D |

| 55478 | 2002-06-20 22:15:00 | I get a similar thing with a winmodem, win98se and an E3 connection. I've put it down to E3's proxy server.. | -=JM=- (16) | ||
| 55479 | 2002-06-20 23:02:00 | Hey i have winME, a win modem and are with E3 also. I'm pretty sure E3 has a problem with connections. Do you also 1. Find that you get disconnected as soon as you connect 2. Do you also find around the busy times of the night that you get a box appearing asking you to enter your username and password straight after you have connected. It will ask you 3 times, and even though your password is right it will disconnect you, other times you just have to type it in once and away you go. |

It matters not how long I am connected (all works OK for hours and hours - tested for 24.5 at one time until Xtra cut me off) but the moment I am disconnected and then reconnect I cannot get/send any data. I only leave my connection on as it is the only way to limit reboots to once a day (I admit it is also handy to receive emails instantly and be able to surf at a moments notice). The error rate is minimal, it has been as little as 20 in a 24 hour period, so I don't think it's a line problem. | Albert (482)

Of possible interest is the fact that data is being sent/received while handshaking, it's only after being accepted that data will not flow. | Albert (482)
| 55482 | 2002-06-21 01:04:00 | I have a similar problem with Windows XP Pro except that the no data flow occurs after i have disconnected and reconnected several times. This is completely random as sometimes its 4 times, sometimes 6 etc. The number of errors are usually minimal (3 or less). The time i spend online before disconnecting is usually less than an hour, sometimes only half. This problem has me stumped. ?:| |
