| 55560 | 2002-06-23 06:10:00 | It's not critical. The fact is, it just shows that some people are different than they appear to be - slack. Just look at PressF1. Sure, nice new forum, but it's turned into a mess hall already and it will get worse. Perhaps if somebody actually listened to me instead of just hearing me... But like I said, my attention is elsewhere, namely experimenting with VRML, and it doesn't really matter. |

| 55561 | 2002-06-23 06:42:00 | Hi Robo and Co., First of all I would like to say that the new look of the site is really impressive if not slightly slower that the previous version. I have not been around much lately so I am just getting up to speed with what has been going on. Everything just seems to take sooooo long using a dialup connection. Anyway, I would be keen to give you a hand with your FAQ's if you need it. Here are a couple that I thought of (some of these may have already been suggested by Graham): Q. Windows takes a long time to verify my username and password? Q. How do I change Windows registered owner? Q. How do I stop programs from running on startup? Q. How do I remove uninstalled program still appears in Add/remove programs list? Q. How do I change the browser name that appears in IE? Q. I have forgottent the content advisor password, how do I get it back? Q. How do I change file associations? Q. How do I create a shortcut to restart windows Q. How do I create a shortcut to shutdown windows Q. How do I get explorer to start in a user defined folder? Q. How to stop Windows 95/98 Logon Prompt at Startup Q. How do I backup the windows update files? Q. How to backup the registry? I already have answers prepare for some of these questions, where would you like them posted or can we just email them to you? |

| 55562 | 2002-06-24 06:19:00 | I'm not exactly sure why you are spitting the dummy so quickly Elwin. ?:| I did a search and you have only 11 posts recorded on Press F1 (old and new) and not all of those were serious responses. Get to a few hundred posts and you will be making progress. Press F1 doesn't exist to stroke king-sized egos (not that I'm suggesting you have that problem) but just the same a little persistence and patience often pays off. If you are as good as you think you are, and have as much to offer as you believe you do, bear with us ordinary mortals and share a little of your knowledge with us. There's nothing wrong with belief in one's own self-worth but sometimes you actually have to put your head down and get into it to demonstrate what you can do before people catch up with what you are about. Give it another go, you might end up enjoying it. On the other hand, if you slope off now, you stand a good chance of becoming Elwin Who? BTW, this is not a dig or a put-down, just some not quite gentle advice from a resident fossil. Cheers Billy 8-{) :D |

| 55563 | 2002-06-24 13:28:00 | Robo, Cranking into no. 2. Up to 1500 words so far, and only up to Windows 95/98. Just so you know I haven't forgotten. G P |

| 55564 | 2002-06-24 13:30:00 | Oh, by the way - who else is helping, or do I have to do the whole 40-odd by myself? Just want to make sure I'm not wasting my time. (couple of hours so far) G P |

Thanks for looking. Did you count my ones from the old Forum? > Get to a few hundred posts and > you will be making progress. Thanks for reminding me. That's how I got to be a qualified computer technician in the first place... :O > If you are as good as you think you are, and have as > much to offer as you believe you do, <snip > Believe it or not, I'm not being egotistical. Simple fact is, I was asked, I said yes, and that was it. Never heard another thing. Now I'm being ignored - again. > Give it another go, you might end up enjoying it. Too late for that buddy - that happened when I sent an e-mail to a certain mod OVER 6 WEEKS ago! ... > > BTW, this is not a dig or a put-down, just some not > quite gentle advice from a resident fossil. BTW nobody seems to have a use for a deaf computer technician... :| |

| 55566 | 2002-06-24 19:40:00 | Hi Tristan, nice to see you around again. As for the FAQ, I am losing track of this beast already. I am also very busy on a little project until the end of this week which means I can't get much time on this. I will try to tidy the list soon and see if we can pilot a couple of FAQ's and lock them down. We will clog the top of the thread list so not sure what we do there. Elwin, sorry you feel like you do, I suspect your comments are aimed at me. As I said above, I am pretty busy at the mo' - if I don't finish a couple of things this week I am going to be in trouble. robo. |

But I have been repetedly ignored (even e-mails > go unanswered) and as a result, I no longer have the > motivation, and have turned my attention elsewhere. > > I may answer a post here'n'there, but don't expect > much else. Elwin, if you read the first post in this thread, Robo says that he's trying to track down the original volunteers, and asks them to leave their names in here and what FAQ they want to write. I don't see a reply from you saying you wish to do it and which one you want to do. Emails you may have sent are irrelevant - the FAQs weren't being created until now, and Robo has asked for the volunteers to speak up again. Mike. PS ever heard of E_? |
