2002-06-22 09:36:00 | Hi there, Has anyone else noticed how slow Paradise net has become over the last couple of months? I have 2 new computers under 6months old that have slowed down dramtically and others in my area (Taranaki) have noticed the same with Paradise. Can anyone suggest an alternative ISP (a fast one) I thought Paradise was rated top for the last 3 years...not anymore. Thanks Caro

2002-06-22 09:46:00 | I too live in Taranaki - Rahotu - with Paradise -got the same problem with slow downloads and kickoffs. Down to 1.5KB/s average today ( well most days ) Had to downgrade my modem from 56 to 33 to try and stay connected. Have had every thing checked by Telecom and alls OK. Put it down to antique phone lines, country problems. I don't think you are alone on this one

2002-06-22 09:56:00 | Nope, you are not alone :( I am having problems connecting, and staying connected (connection slows to a dribble, then cuts off, annoyingly, every 10 mins or so) I found, interestingly, that my connection was stable and reasonably quick during the storm on Thurs & Fri nites... maybe not too many were logging on? Paradise have told me it is my problem, and they have more than enough available connections. I can log on and stay logged on to ClearNet and FreeNet accounts with no problems when I cant connect to Paradise.- It sounds like they have employed brain-washed ex-Xtra helpdesk staff. Sad, cause I moved from Paradise from Xtra, told lots of people how good t was, so they changed too, now it sucks and my homepage is hosted there. J.

2002-06-22 10:04:00 | Thanks I have had my phones lines checked and settings changed and everything you are saying has happened to me. And Paradise are saying it's not them..I have 2 new computers both different brands and the same things happening on both...no probs with other ISPs. Thanks Caro ps. I too converted many people to Paradise and feel quite stupid now.

2002-06-22 10:30:00 | Most times I log on Paradise at 52K, sometimes it goes to 4.8K in that case I log off and back on again and it goes back to 52K, right now it hives 49.333K bps | E.ric (351) | |
2002-06-22 11:21:00 | Always happens like this. Once an ISP gets a reputation as being really fast, all the hardcore downloader/leechers switch to that ISP and slow them down. gee I wonder who those people would be. :) <<== *realises he has been connected and downloading for pretty much the last month*

2002-06-22 11:46:00 | I connect at 52 or 49...but it can take over a minute to get into a web site(when I can get in that is), I give up on downloading it takes sometimes over an hour to download 1.3mb. It never used to be like this. What is a good alternative to Paradise?

2002-06-22 18:24:00 | Hi Caro Laurie here again - Yep you are correct - same thing happens here - tried several internet tweak programs -no different. good connection early morning till about 8.00am then it goes downhill. Still connect at 40+ but transfer rate = average 1.8KB/s downloading.

2002-06-22 18:40:00 | You are quite right. In Rotorua they are useless. My guess is that they now have more users than they can accommodates dial half a dozen times before connection. Quite often I was connecting at 28 Kbs. And the number of times I got dumped was ridiculous. Needless to say I now have a new ISP. Jack.
