2002-06-22 02:00:00 | True Story: Was in a Dunedin computer shop fondling the nice new webcams and cordless keyboards (as you do LOL)...... In the next row, there was a salesman doing his salesman spiel to a portly middleaged couple (looking to buy a nice shiny new HP/Compaq)..... He informed them (much to their relief) that the said brand was excellent because you could attach a printer to it, but you would have to buy a top of the range model to have a scanner as well. BUT one of the greatest things about that particular model, was that you put a Xtra CDrom in and have instant internet !!!! I didn't know whether to laugh or cry..... a chocolate fish to anyone who can guess the name of the shop Regards, BALDY

2002-06-22 03:21:00 | At a guess, I would say the shop was either Dick Smith Electronics (though I don't think they sell HPs Other wise I would say it was Noel Lemmings. But then it could have been any one of Noel Lemmings, PowerStore, Bond & Bond, Smith City, (Have I missed any??). When it comes to computers they all know very little about computers and all seem to think HPs are the best computer you can get AHHH With only a 100W power supply, tiny cases, and only being able to buy HP hardware for them, I would have to say they are the worst kind of computers you can get. I wouldn't recommend anyone getting one. Infact I try to put people off from buying them.

2002-06-22 03:31:00 | Does anyone know the answer to this? Do HP/Compaq still have that thing were they dont use standard parts and RAM therefore costs 3 times as much to upgrade?

2002-06-22 03:36:00 | Yes I believe you still have to buy HP parts. | NathanTheKind (472) | |
2002-06-22 06:56:00 | The only really non-standard part I saw in the last one I opened up (k6-550 vintage) was the tiny power supply (only 95W, 140W max) It took standard SDRAM.
