55963 2002-06-21 13:02:00 hi, i tried installing one of my games (jedi knight 2) on win xp pro and it doesn't work, it says that the error was in opening OpenGL Subsytem, what does that mean? Do i need a new vid card driver? vk_dre (195)
55964 2002-06-21 13:14:00 OpenGl as I understand it is another graphics programming language, so if your graphics card is able just download OpenGL from openGL.com etc.

If not change graphics cards.

55965 2002-06-21 15:17:00 What video card are you using??? make, model??

are you using the default XP drivers??

by default XP drivers do not support openGL,

if you have an nvidia based card eg: geforce or tnt goto:
www.nvidia.com

if you have an ATI based card eg: radeon goto:
www.ati.com

55966 2002-06-21 22:32:00 When installed XP on mates machine, we played a openGL game and didn't need to install, so XP drivers work fine for OPENGL. Scotty D (491)
55967 2002-06-21 23:05:00 My answer is based on fact not assumptions.......

quote " Windows XP seems to come bundled with an Nvidia driver that does not support OpenGL at all. This problems occurs with all kind of Nvidia board (Prophet, GeForce, TNT, MX...). OpenGL games (Quake 3, Wolfenstein, Halflife Counterstrike...) don't run at all, or run in Direct3D mode, which is maybe not what you want."

55968 2002-06-21 23:38:00 OK, but thats directly related to nvidia cards, so it might work without problems with others. Scotty D (491)
