55937 2002-06-21 11:30:00 Someone was asking about removing Windows Messenger in WinXP?

If you want to completely remove it from WinXp Home/Pro then do the following:
NOTE the inf directory is a 'special' system directory make sure you have enabled
your explorer folder view options appropriately.

Open C:\WINDOWS\inf\sysoc.inf in NOTEPAD and change the line:

msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7
to
msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,7

Save and Exit from Notepad.

You can then go into Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs and then
use Add/Remove Windows Components to remove Messenger.

BTW If you are the more adventuous type then remove ",hide" from each (all) of the lines in SYSOC.INF.
Now have a look in Add/Remove Windows Components section.

Cheers, Babe.

55938 2002-11-03 22:13:00 Cheers Babe, I've had a look at some other post, but had the same problems as liam... I just get a computer with no label, and an empty check box beside it. Any suggestions?!

Thanks

55946 2002-11-05 03:44:00 Why muck about with changing all these things? I simply opened explorer and selected Messenger and then hit delete. It's been gone for a year and no problems
Jack.
