56588 2002-06-22 11:53:00 I have 2 genuine original sets of floppy discs for Win 95 setup. One is an OEM set and the other an upgrade set so neither includes a bootable disc. There is nothing on the labels to indicate the actual version number. Is there any way I can determine the version numbers from the discs without having to do an install first?

56589 2002-06-22 21:46:00 By memory version win95B is 22 or 23 discs. It should include a boot disk for computers without DOS. EG:OEM is usually a new computer without operating system.
The full 1st version is 12 or 13 discs.
I'm picking the upgrade discs you have will be from win3.1 to win95 1st release.

cheers Steve

56590 2002-06-23 04:30:00 Have a look at the dates and times of the files on the disks. MS use these fields for version numbers. E.g. DOS 6.22 disks were written at "6:22 am ". (I don't know off hand the ones for W95, but post them and someone will know). Graham L (2)
56591 2002-06-23 06:14:00 I just had a look at my 95a disks (13 disks) and they were dated Tuesday, 11 July 1995 9:50pm (version 950).

IIRC win95b and c were OEM only, so likley both of them are 95a.

Steve, the OEM set has 22 discs and the file creation date is 24/8/96, so I guess that confirms my suspicion that it is Release B.
Graham, I know that the file time stamp indicates the version number - 1 set has the time of 9:50 and the other (22-disc set) has 11:11, which didn't mean much but it must be a cryptic way of indicating version 2.
bm, your info corresponded with my 13-disc set. The setup.txt files for both sets are dated August, 1995 which didn't help.
