56698 2002-06-23 04:38:00 I have recently had to install DirectX8.1 and upgrade my video drivers.

This is you can probably understand has caused me some other problems with other games I have. The main issue I have is that games play, but I end up with a massive black margin around the screen, and the screen display smaller, but in the centre of the screen.

This only happens when the game is in a lower resolution than the one I am running Windows 98 in. Running Windows normally is fine - the picture takes up the whole screen.

Any ideas? Specifications:

HP Pavilion 6511 (standard except for Network card. second HD and CD Burner).

56699 2002-06-23 04:59:00 first simple thing to do is set windows to same resolution as you use in the games, adjust monitor to make it fit screen(on ALL resolutions you might use). then go play game and use ingame control to match screen if need be. tweak'e (174)
56700 2002-06-23 05:59:00 Thanks for your reply. I should have provided more information.

I have the sis530 driver to suit my sis530 chipset. I should also have said that I've installed DirectX 8.1.

It seems as though sis530 is only compatible with DirectX 8.0a. So I am off to find out how to uninstall 8.1 and install 8.0a.

Wish me luck....

56701 2002-06-23 08:06:00 strange, most pc's with non directX8.1 video cards i've had will refuse to install directX8.1

check out the remove directX thread but be prepared to do an 'over the top reinstall'.
