57008 2002-06-24 11:08:00 I have been trying to get a friends puter back to normal, she is running Windows Me, but has two kids who click things when they shouldn't. When I double click to open a folder, any folder, it opens the search program. How do I make "open with" come up so I can change it back to "OPEN" in explorer, and is that what a folder is supposed to open in? TIA supergran (108)
57009 2002-06-24 22:19:00 select the file then hold down Shift, and then right click while holding down Shift. You should then be able to chose open with.

57010 2002-06-24 22:24:00 Sorry misread your query.

When you open the folder, make sure that the search button is not pressed. This should get the folder back to normal.

To reiterate. When you double click the folder, and the window opens look at the buttons along the top of the window and click the button that says Search. This should turn the search off.

57011 2002-06-24 22:33:00 Nathan, I dont think you did misread my query. The kids have set folders to open in Search. I went into file types, and they have it set to open in Search not explorer. I will try the second post that you said, but I think it is the 'open with' I need, to try and change it back to opening in explorer. thanks. :) supergran (108)
57012 2002-06-24 22:43:00 Yes Sorry, ignore my last post.

go to start, settings, Folder Options,

Select the the file types tab.

Scroll down until you find Folder.
Select it, click edit, select open
then click set default. This should revert it back to explorer.

:)

57013 2002-06-24 23:49:00 supergran - Nathan's last post (folder options...) should do the trick.

57014 2002-06-25 08:26:00 Well I tried that, and it wouldnt let me edit, it wouldnt give me 'open with' from your earlier post, won;t let me do lots. LOL When I open file types, find folder or file folder, which aren't in alphabetical order I might add, beside both of those , (folder, and file folder), it says N/A. It also says that beside quite a few other file types. Any more good ideas, short of reformatting? TIA :- supergran (108)
57015 2002-06-25 10:17:00 Hi supergran - i too have been trying to help a rellie who uses ME and her puter is a real mess by the sounds of things (she is in oz so i can't actually see it!). I use XP mostly but win 95 on 2 other computers we have. Anyway my first thought on your prob was same as Nathan, - Question i have for you is can you right click a folder and get properties? J ZEP (336)
57016 2002-06-25 10:23:00 yes, I think I did get properties at some stage today, and when I do right click, the top of the list is search, then after that is open, and after that, I can't remember. LOL And yes, the puter is in a mess, and when I open a link in ie, it gives me this wee box halfway up the screen, but sorry, that will be tomorrows headache, guess I had better try and fix this other one first. :-) supergran (108)
57017 2002-06-25 21:42:00 Just to make sure, can you double click on the folder icon in File Types and then single click open and then click set default??
