2002-06-27 06:29:00 | I'd just like to say that there can be a problem with the Soltek boards. There sometimes is a capacitor in the way of fitting a large HSF to the motherboard. But otherwise are meant to be really good just as Erin has said. PS. Erin I think there is something missing from your post.

2002-06-27 06:59:00 | Anyway, As for the large heatsinks, I have used everything from the standard Taisol Fans right up to Dragon Orb 3's and Volcano 6 Cu+ Fans and not yet discovered the problem. However, I do not doubt that it is correct, as the capacitors on the older boards are large. The new DRV5 model, and the soon to be released F6 of the KAV have small capaicitors. But if you know which fans don't work, there's about a million other choices out there, and you'll have no problem finding a fan for any purpose. Soltek have also got a really nice new Pentium 4 board with 6 channel hardware sound (doesn't use the CPU), and a truckload of nice bits and pieces, at a very reasonable price. I don't recall what it was, as I don't make P4 systems at the moment, but looking at the white paper, it was good... Evidentely no-one feels like buying a PC that costs $5000 just for the ability to say "I own a slow PC!!" :) Erin

I just thought it was good that you left it out. There were times in the old forums where people thought it was a but off. BACK ON TOPIC NOW it really is a good idea to make sure that the components are good. |

2002-06-27 11:18:00 | Well I have a ton of problems with them and so have a lot of others. So far they have taken about 3 months repeatedly trying to fix a problem with my system. Their systems are built without much thought at all, their cases don't have much room for heat to escape, and Ill let someone else inform you of their problems with the PC Company.

2002-06-28 03:38:00 | Continuing on from this discussion. Can anyone recommend where to go for servicing computers and having equipment added on. Have experienced Baytown Computers when I had to have modem replaced (not at all impressed by the so called expert in there) Took the computer in on a Friday, told it would be ready in an hour. Went back for it. Sorry he was too busy to look at it. Went in on Monday to collect it, brought it home. Hey!! message to say no modem installed. Rang them up (we live out in the country) It was all my fault I hadn`t given them the right password to get into the computer. Only have one and they had that. Took machine back and whatever he had to do got done and all has been ok. However would be nice to know of someone in the area who is capable and makes you feel confident in their abilities. Prefer Te Puke/ Mount area if possible Thanks, Iris

2002-06-28 05:15:00 | Hi, I had a list of about 25 things on the old forum that I had found wrong with a number of PC Company PCs... Despite my warnings people kept buying them, and I kept helping set them up for my friends... A breif summary of some of the worse issues. Overheating CPUs Hot Glue tangled in GPU fans = Burnt Video Card, burnt modem too... String tying things in place 200W PSUs with 1.4Ghz+ Athlons (AMD specifies a 300W Minumum) 230W PSUs with P4s No thermal design Magnetic rings on monitors OS did not install HDD with bad sectors (only found this one recently - but you think they'd test them before sale...) 20GB HDD = 16.7GB in reality Spelling mistakes on "Dirver CD" - (driver CD) Scanner didn't work Webcam incompatible with PC 6 Months trying to fix a faulty Scanner - Still no see. Poor tech support - "what's a cache?" Patronising sales and marketing - "We pay tax in NZ" - yeah no ****... Melting/sparking monitors Dead fly in case - No, I'm not kidding... Smokey smells coming from case Fingers stuck in floppy drive - disks jammed Voided the Warranty getting the disks out :) You get what you pay for... Erin
