57018 2002-06-26 01:08:00 supergran,

Goto Start>Settings>Control Panel>Folder Options,

Select the the file types tab.

Scroll down until you find Folder. (Not File Folder)

Click the advanced button.

You should have a list with open and explore in it.

If you do, select open and click "set as default"

If not, click new and type open in the name box, and type C:\Windows\explorer.exe in the path box.

Click OK, and set the new entry called open as default.

OK your way out. If this doesn't work, or you have trouble following my breif instructions, let me know.

57019 2002-06-26 03:22:00 No it won't let me double click to open the folder. :( supergran (108)
57020 2002-06-26 03:25:00 I did all the things you suggested, and yes explore and open are there, explore at the top, then open, but it won't let me click set default. When I try and put in new it tells me it is already there, and to select something else. supergran (108)
57021 2002-06-26 03:29:00 The error message exactly is
"File types' The action 'open' is already registered for this file type. Please enter a different name and try again.

57022 2002-06-26 05:56:00 When you say it doesn't let you set the default, what doesn't it do? ie is the button greyed out, or is there an errror message? Also, which of the options (open, explore etc) is bolded?

57027 2006-04-07 18:00:00 Hi i know its a very old post but this below solved my problem in 1 line !

go to start ------click -----pick the "run" option -----in the "type the name of a program etc " box type in exactly below (note after the 32 in regsvr32 there is a space .there is also a space between i and shell )

regsvr32 /i shell32

Then press ok or enter

sorted ,the next time you double click the folder it will open and show the contents rather than default to a search box !
